SUBPROJECT: DEVELOPMENT RETAIL VISION AND POLICY

Constant changes in consumer trends call for an active and dynamic policy in the retail sector. The influence of the Internet is still increasing and growing competition between shopping areas is a well known issue. Consumers increasingly tend to have higher demands on quality, choice options, pricing, accessibility, parking, experience and entertainment because of which the competition keeps going on.

These changes also effect the Municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg. Retail is a key driver of the economy of Leidschendam-Voorburg. In this context, much attention is given to the development and policy of retail and the way the different shopping areas and centres should preferably be developed.

Assignment

To provide strategic and practical input to the vision and strategy needed for the development of the required retail vision and policy of the Municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg. In addition, we carried out the project management. The objective was to realize a future-proof retail offer and structure, well-attuned to the existing regional and provincial policies, but also a firm component within the structure vision of the Municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg as well.

Result

A systematically organized process in which stakeholders and entrepreneurs are involved through various interactive sessions and conversations that we helped organizing, developing, designing, supervising and facilitating. This has resulted in a developed retail vision and policy which fits within the framework of the provincial policy and also has been reviewed and approved by the City Council and entrepreneurs. A base for implementation of several next steps is at one’s disposal.
