The municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg is a green and divers municipality with a rich history. Aspects as quality of life, an environment which is good to live and to work in are very important. Also for this reason the municipality continuously works on urban renewal  as described in the ‘multiannual development programme urban renewal’. In addition to physical measures such as renovation, the focus is on quality of life and social development in districts and neighborhoods including Leidschendam South and explicitly the Venestraat and surroundings.


We were asked to develop and describe scenarios for a possible future area concept and positioning for the Venestraat and surroundings in Leidschendam-Voorbug. One of the main conditions  was to develop the economical perspective of this district.
Feasibility, profiling and to develop links with the other pillars which are part of the renewal programme, together with the future vision of the municipality, were and are the main focus points to keep in mind.


We  first started organizing and leading a brainstorm session for various stakeholders.  Next, we have interviewed different types of entrepreneurs, municipal employees, owners and various stakeholders. Ultimately, we made a presentation with various scenarios which included indication of industry, possible themes, public space, link to (water) recreation and preconditions and critical success factors to realize the intended scenario.
After finalizing the presentation one of the scenarios has been chosen, for which we have drawn up a substantive and practical plan of action to realize it.
